Disney Wars

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Seriously, quit the whining. Disney buying out Lucasfilm does not mean doom and gloom. People need to step back and put a few things in perspective.

The Prequels Weren't Exactly Gems of Cinema

There, I said it. It's the truth, the ugly truth. But if you think Disney is going to create a super awful cheesy Star Wars as compared to Lucas, you need to rewatch the scene where Anakin Skywalker, at the age of 11, manages to, for the first time in his life, climb into a vacant Naboo Starfighter, pilot it into space, survive a dogfight, fly through a Trade Federation Battleship and destroy the thing from the inside.

I was going to go on at length about any other number of terrible, awful lines in the prequels, but really, I think the above caliber of storytelling pretty much sums it up. "Wahoooo!"

What Else Does Disney Own?

Turns out, Disney has bought out some other beloved IP's in the last few years, and no one had shed a tear. What are the two biggest names they've purchased?

It takes a bit of crack investigative reporting (wikipedia), but in case anyone has been hiding under a rock lately, it turns out both Marvel and Pixar are owned by Disney. Here's the short list of terrible, awful movies that partnership has given us:

Pixar

Marvel

Boy, those righteous fanboys are right, Disney has completely ruined the IP's owned by those franchises. Damn you, Disney, for giving me The Avengers!

Think of the Potential

Disney World can now dedicate a portion of the park to Star Wars, AND a portion of the park to Indiana Jones. Remember, Indiana Jones is owned by Lucasfilm. You might be able to visit the Temple of Doom in a few years time, or walk into Mos Eisley's Cantina. Just think about that for a second.

And to Wrap Up...

I'm not saying there isn't room for Disney to complete destroy the franchise. There is. It could happen. But I do think there's more reason to be positive than negative, all things considered.

I mean, really, do you remember the prequels? No? Well, allow me to give you a couple prime reasons to take off your rose colored glasses, and remember that not all things nostalgic are good, and sometimes, a fresh change just might be a good thing:
